MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

MEMBER SHOUT-OUTS

Congratulations to all of our 2017 Award Recipients!

Vera Faucheux      Award of Excellence-Volunteer Leadership

"This year's winner is someone who has shined all year as a hard worker, dedicated member and has consistently given us her all. She is frequently seen as the first person to arrive and the last person to leave. She never leaves her team behind and always does it with a smile."

Jenny Rozas      Chapter Rising Star

"This award, like others, is peer nominated by the membership. It was created to encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments with chapter support and involvement. The Chapter rising start always finds solutions, inspires those around them and strives for nothing but the best. This year's winner exemplifies all of the qualities to a T."

Cindy Hayes, CMP, DCMP      Trail Blazer Award

"This year's recipient has quietly shaped and defined a major pillar of our chapter.  She consistently shares her words of wisdom. She tells us what we need to hear, even when we aren't her best audience. As an industry veteran, she has served as a mentor to many. This year, she led the charge and allowed our chapter to become accredited with the CIC and has ensured we have kept education opportunities at the forefront. We wouldn't be where we are today without this person leading the way and holding out hands as we moved into uncharted territories."

Holly-Anne Palmer, with Happy Hour Entertainment        Sponsor of the Year Award

"This year's sponsor of the year received an overwhelming amount of support. This sponsor upped our game at one of our signature events.  She challenged our status quo and brought something to us that we have never had before. Her enthusiasm for life is down right contagious. She is an advocate for MPI and this industry."

Valerie Landry      Award of Excellence-Member of The Year

"This year's winner is someone who is very special. When you mention her name to anyone, they immediately smile. This member is seen at every event for the chapter and throughout the city. She gives back at our chapter at every turn. She is always passing along words of encouragement and positive thoughts. She is the first person to offer help. When she gets wind that anyone needs anything she puts her hand up first and then asks what else she can do. You see her mentoring young event professionals. She ensures that everyone around her is lifted up. This spirit, this selfless person, is very deserving to be called our Member of the Year."

Lisa Larsen      The President's  Award

"This year the person receiving this award probably doesn't even see it coming. She is that humble. In her three years of membership, she has taken us by storm. This person has been a game changer since she joined the chapter and over this past year she moved mountains and made miracles happen. There really isn't a time I can think of that she wasn't giving her all in everything she does. She is someone I respect, someone I look up to and someone I have been very honored to serve alongside this year. She is the type of person that works hard and makes you want to work hard right alongside her. Her list of accomplishments are a mile long. She has the best attitude, she is smart and her approach is always gentle."

MPI GULF STATES 2016 CHARITY

Launched by the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association (GMOHLA) in May 2016, Feed the Need NOLA was created to provide meals to those in need for people in the Greater New Orleans community. In today’s economic uncertainty, shelters across the country are feeling the financial burden of keeping their doors open. Feed the Need NOLA has partnered up with local shelters such as the New Orleans Mission and St. Jude Community Center to help bring approximately 200 meals per week to tables across the city; saving the shelters an estimated $50,000, annually. Each week, Feed the Need NOLA will partner up with a different hotel or local business to prepare, deliver and serve meals to those in need. Feed the Need NOLA provides a wonderful opportunity for locals in the hospitality industry to help give back to their community in a big way while helping save thousands of dollars for the local non-profits.

"Many families are struggling to make ends meet and programs such as Feed the Need NOLA will go a long way in making a difference" said David Teich, Windsor Court Hotel General Manager and GNOHLA Board President. Other current GNOHLA programs include volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, scholarships, the Tourism Tee Off Golf Tournament and the Education Foundation.

For more information about Feed the Need NOLA, visit www.gnohla.com/feedtheneednola.html contact Mavis Early at 504-525-2264 or David Teich at 504-596-4780.
