November welcomes not only cooler weather to New Orleans (well, we can dream) but also the new Troubadour Hotel, which will include three new venues run by Chef Phillip Lopez, the ambitious chef behind the restaurants Root and Square Root. (If you haven’t been, you should.)


As described on its website ... "The Troubadour, a Joie de Vivre boutique hotel in New Orleans, will energize the emerging Central Business District with a lineup of live shows from local musicians, a fun rooftop hangout and a casual bistro spiced with the spirit of NOLA. The Troubadour moves to the rhythm of its own beat."

On top of that, we will get Petit Lion, an 80-seat Parisian bistro on the ground floor; Monkey Board, the rooftop bar with a 360-degree view of the city; and The Troubadour Lounge on the second floor. Whew!

Petit Lion will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, bringing the modern pulse of Parisian dining to New Orleans.

Monkey Board, the rooftop bar, will serve global "food truck-style" cuisine, such as chilaquiles with Oaxacan mole or black bean hummus, along with sharable drinks. For dessert, a birthday cake sized for four. (I’m hungry now!)

Personally, I can’t wait to visit! See you there in November ...

MPI Gulf States Chapter will kick off 2017 by celebrating our 20th anniversary. We will be celebrating throughout the year!  

To start off our celebration, our January event will feature guest speaker Michael Dominguez, chief sales officer from MGM Resorts International. Join us for a state of the industry talk that include predictions of business trends from rooms to food and beverage from both a planner and supplier point of view.  

As Chief Sales Officer, Mr. Dominguez provides oversight of sales strategies in the MICE and leisure segments, including industry relations, diversity and MGM Resorts Events & Production Services. Dominguez’s industry involvement includes board positions with US Travel Association, APEX Standards Committee and HSMAI, among others.

The zoo’s Halloween party is targeted to kids 12 and younger. Expect not-too-spooky attractions like a ghost train and trick or treating.

Voodoo Music + Art Experience

The festival takes place over Halloween weekend on the festival grounds at City Park. In addition to top preforming musical acts the festival features interactive art displays and local food and art vendors.

Launched by the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association (GMOHLA) in May 2016, Feed the Need NOLA was created to provide meals to those in need for people in the Greater New Orleans community. In today’s economic uncertainty, shelters across the country are feeling the financial burden of keeping their doors open. Feed the Need NOLA has partnered up with local shelters such as the New Orleans Mission and St. Jude Community Center to help bring approximately 200 meals per week to tables across the city; saving the shelters an estimated $50,000, annually. Each week, Feed the Need NOLA will partner up with a different hotel or local business to prepare, deliver and serve meals to those in need. Feed the Need NOLA provides a wonderful opportunity for locals in the hospitality industry to help give back to their community in a big way while helping save thousands of dollars for the local non-profits.

"Many families are struggling to make ends meet and programs such as Feed the Need NOLA will go a long way in making a difference" said David Teich, Windsor Court Hotel General Manager and GNOHLA Board President. Other current GNOHLA programs include volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, scholarships, the Tourism Tee Off Golf Tournament and the Education Foundation.
